Numazu Port has a sluice gate as a disaster prevention facility to prevent tsunamis caused by the Tokai earthquake. The sluice gate is 30 meters high, and from the observation deck you can see Mt. Fuji and Mt. Ashitaka to the north, Mt. Hakone to the east, Mt. Amagi to the south, and Suruga Bay to the west. To the east of the gate are the Numazu Alps and the Kano River. There is an exhibition facility (Numazu Port Deep Sea Aquarium) where you can see some of the deep-sea fish caught from Suruga Bay, the deepest bay in Japan.

Large-Scale Observation Gate "View-O"

It is a sluice gate built to protect the land (50 hectares) behind the port and its residents (9,000 people) from tsunami, that enters from the shipping route connecting the inner and outer harbor of Numazu Port. From the observation corridor and connecting bridge, you can enjoy a 360-degree view of Mt. Ashitaka, Mt. Fuji, the Southern Alps, the Hakone Mountain range, the Numazu Alps, and Cape Osezaki.
