We will start from Dogashima, which is famous as a scenic spot. A layer of volcanic ash and pumice more than 20 meters thick is exposed there, and beautiful stripes that are traces of waves are carved. Evidence of submarine volcanoes appears one after another. How intense the eruptive activity at that time was! Let's walk with memories of ancient times. The Buddha statue carved in the pumice cave at the edge of Sawada village is also a must-see spot. If you squint into the darkness, you will see a figure carrying a light on his back just like the sunset of Nishi Izu.

Nishiizu Town Tourism Association

It is a tourist information center near the Dogashima bus stop. Please stop by before starting sightseeing in Dogashima.

Dogashima

On the cliffs of the Dogashima coast, you can see the underwater debris flow associated with the eruption of a submarine volcano and the pumice and volcanic ash layers that have fallen on top of it.

Norihama Beach

It is a small beach about 150m long. Surrounded by islands, the scenery is good, and the waves are quiet, and it is popular with families.

Kareno Park

You will see the strata of underwater debris flows associated with the eruption of submarine volcanoes and the strata of underwater fractured lava that flowed to the seabed. Some of the white volcanic ash strata that have fallen on the seabed have undergone deformation while they are soft and created a pattern that resembles a snake undulating.

Sawada Village

Houses are built in a maze of intricate plots on the narrow coastal land.
You might catch a glimpse of the once bustling guesthouses and fishermen's town as they used to be in the past.
