Yasunari Kawabata Literary Monument

“Just when you think that the road is winding and turning and you are finally approaching the Amagi Pass・・・,“
This is the famous beginning of a novel, “the Dancer of Izu".
We will follow the old highway walked by a young college student and a girl dancer.

Old Amagi Tunnel

It opened in 1905 and is still in use now.
It is the longest stone road tunnel and designated as an important cultural property of the country. It brought about a major change in the history of transportation on the Izu Peninsula, which had long hindered people from crossing over the Amagi Pass.

Kanten (Agar) Bridge

It is a bridge known for the lyrics of "Amagi Crossing" sung by Sayuri Ishikawa, popular singer.
Agar was produced here in the mountains of Amagi, but why?

Nikaidaru Waterfall

It is a powerful waterfall spanning the Hontani River (Kawazu River), which originates from Mt. Amagi.
Why do waterfalls are called "taru" in the Kawazu area?
