The Hojo clan was merely a local samurai family. "Hojo no Sato," the natural land of Hojo clan nurtured the love between Minamoto Yoritomo and Masako. It eventually became a great wave and led to the establishment of the first samurai government in Japan. While walking around the places related to the Hojo clan around Mt. Moriyama, why not think about the samurais of about 800 years ago.

Shinjuin Temple

There is a memorial hall for Yaehime, who is said to have entered the water to kill herself for a tragic love toward Minamoto Yoritomo.
There is also one of the oldest five-ring pagodas in the prefecture and Buddha statue carved into the cliff.

Ganjojuin Temple

It is a temple of the Hojo clan built by Hojo Tokimasa in prayer for Minamoto Yoritomo's victory in battle. The five Buddha statues created by Unkei, great Buddha Statue Master, are designated as national treasures.

Moriyama Hachimangu Shrine

It is a shrine dedicated to God of Hachiman, the guardian deity of Genji. It is said to be the place where Minamoto Yoritomo started the first battle with his rival, Heishi.
