The Kakita River, Sakai River, Kiyozumi Ryokuchi (Green Area), and Maruike are the places where lava flowed from the eruption of Mt. Fuji about 10,000 years ago. This lava is permeable to water and the water springs up tens of kilometers from Mt. Fuji. This spring water reaches about 1 million tons per day, making the Kakita River, which is only 1.2 km long, and finally joins the Kano River. With rich nature preserved, many animals and plants live here. The Sakaigawa and Kiyozumi Green Area is located near the Sakai River, which flows on the border between Mishima City and Shimizu Town and is a lowered wetland with an area of about 0.85 ha. Trees and grass grow along the water, and it is a green space rich in nature for birds, fish, and insects. In the spring, you can see the indigenous Mishima-Baikamo (water buttercup) blooming in the water.
