On the western slope of Taga Volcano, which erupted about 500,000 years ago, the Tanna Fault began to be active hundreds of thousands of years ago. A valley with a cumulative lateral slip of about 1 km and a vertical deviation of about 100 m was carved into lakes and marshes, and flat lands such as Tashiro Basin, Tanna Basin, and Ukihashi Basin were created in the mountains. The Kitaizu earthquake that occurred on November 26, 1930, caused a great disaster for people. We will trace the life of the basin, such as the drought caused by the construction of the Tanna Tunnel and its history of overcoming difficulties. There are no convenience stores or traffic lights, and the fault topography observed from the center of the basin, where the idyllic "Tanna time" passes, will be quite impressive to you.

Dairy kingdom Orache
Orache was opened in Tanna, as a dairy farming village, with the aim of creating a "space where people who make and people who eat come into contact with each other". There are also plenty of hands-on programs such as ice cream making.

Yashimate Shrine
It is a shrine dedicated to Yashima Jinuminokami. The turtle stones and white snake stones in the shrine precincts are thought to be the stones of Taga Volcano.

Drought Countermeasure Monument
The Tanna Basin was hit by a drought due to the construction of the Tanna Tunnel. There are monuments commemorating the construction of a simple water supply system.

Niiyama Two-Body Dosojin (Travellers’ Guardian Deity)
Kannami Town is said to be the southern limit where the two-body Dosojin (Travellers’ Guardian Deity) can be seen. This is one of the two Dosojins, that have two bodies, in this town.

Tanna Fault Park
The traces of the left-lateral slip fault (2.6 m) that appeared on the surface of the earth during the Kitaizu Earthquake (magnitude 7.3, seismic intensity 6) in 1930 are preserved as a natural monument.

Showa Forest of Calligraphers Monument
In the hope that the traditional culture of calligraphy will spread throughout the world, stone monuments with the brushes of modern calligraphers have been erected.

Mimusubi Shrine
It is a shrine dedicated to the two Great Gods of Heaven and Earth Creation, Takamiimusubi God and Kamimusubi God.

Fault Topography Observation
If you look at the ridgeline of Mt. Kurodake from the center of the basin, you can observe how the Kitaizu Fault shifted up and down by about 100 meters over hundreds of thousands of years.
